Organising work · Practical guide
A more organised small business, one job at a time
Customers, proposals, jobs and materials: where to start with an organisation system that is easy to maintain.
Choose a concrete starting point
Changing every habit at once can be hard. Start with something you do often, such as recording a request or preparing a quote. Keep essential information together and check that you can find it when needed. Consistency matters more than perfect records on day one.
Distinguish a proposal from unfinished work
A quote you have sent and a job in progress need different attention. Separating these stages helps you see which customers need a response and which tasks you need to plan. Update statuses when things change so the overview stays useful.
Make your materials list easy to read
Consistent codes and descriptions help you identify parts and prepare proposals. If you use stock management, check quantities and update them when needed. Before importing a large list, try a small sample and verify how codes match.
Set aside time for a review
At the end of the week, review appointments, quotes and unfinished jobs. Identify the next step for each: a call, a site visit or a material order. AtelierX brings these elements together; regular review turns them into a system you can maintain.
